Since we have a little guy we decided it was time to start doing some of our own Christmas Traditions. Dave’s family did the Christmas Eve Pajama and my family opened any one present on Eve night. We decided to do pajamas every other year (or other wise we will have way to many) and maybe the years we aren’t getting pajamas we will open a present under the tree; maybe different Christmas books.
Dad helping Ryker open his gift from Santa. He wasn’t to interested in the opening process ,but he sure liked looking at the dog card.
Christmas this year landed on a Sunday. I got ready for the day then we headed downstairs to find that Santa came and our stockings were full. Dave and Ryker in there new pajamas.
After we opened our stockings we made Christmas breakfast. Dave’s family does this every year, so we adopted it and gave it try. We kept it simple and had pancakes with homemade orange syrup, hash browns and juice. I think we will continue it.
My mom came to church with us. It was only an hour, but the spirit was strong and it helped us remember the true meaning of Christmas.
After church, Ryker went down for a nap and we woke him at 2pm to head to my parents house to have turkey dinner and open presents under the tree.
Monday December 26, At 8:45 am we headed off to the airport to go to Calgary, Canada for a week. We arrived at 1 pm and spent the rest of the day resting and visiting with family. We had a Turkey dinner with Cindy, Ryan, Aaliegh, Jesse, Amy, Brady, Doug, and Blanche.
On Tuesday we met Ryan and Katya at the Cheesecake Café for lunch. That evening Grandma and Grandpa Sefcik came over for left over dinner and to play card games.
Wednesday for lunch we were treated to Smuggler's with Doug and Blanche. We always get there most delicious steak soup! Cindy and her family left and the Shipley family came in that afternoon. I always enjoy a crazy house full of family.
Thursday we didn’t do much, Doug and Blanche were very generous to watch Ryk while Dave and I went out on a date to Moxie’s to get there delicious White chocolate brownie.
That evening we had a pretty bad scare with Ryker. He was running around with his dad when he slipped on the hardwood floor in the kitchen and fell flat on his back and head. Dave quickly picked him up and he really wasn’t crying. Ryker just had his mouth gaped open like he was getting ready to let out a big cry. Dave gave him to me as I sat on the rocking chair in the family room and once he was in my arms he was still trying to take a breath. He then let out a small cry. David thought, that was it. Then Ryker's head rolled to his chest and his entire body became limp. He wasn’t breathing! Dave ran up stair to get his dad and I quickly ran after. Once I got to the bottom of the stairs Ryker finally drew in a breath and cried. We calmed him down and he drank a bottle and fell right to sleep. Doug and Dave talked to Ben (dave’s brother) who said that kids are resilient and we don’t have to wake him up every hour to see if he is alright. The things we need to watch for is if he wakes up vomiting or the next day if he isn’t acting like himself then it’s a sign of some brain swelling. Luckily he never vomited and he was back to his happy outgoing self. He woke up at midnight wanting a bottle and hearing him cry was such a sweet sound.
Playing with the kid friendly nativity set with Maddie.
Ryker had fun being pulled around by Landon in this tiny wagon made for a doll.
Relaxing with Aunt Heather.
Playing cars with Max.
Oh, these 3 stairs. Ryker would not slide backwards down the stairs so we taught him to hold on to the railing and walk down. Everyone got a kick out of it. It only took 1 fall down the stairs for him to figure out how to go down with out any help.
New year’s eve Amy and Brady came over and all of us ordered Chinese food and played games. We made it to midnight but once we saw the ball drop on T.V. we all called it quits and headed to bed.
Ryker with Great-Grandma Sefcik. What a sweet moment. We love her so very much. She is the sweetest grandmother and we wish Ryker came a few years earlier so he could spend more time with her.
Over all, he did pretty well sleeping in a different bed, the pack n play, we normally don’t rock him to sleep but this is the only way he would stay asleep so we could leave him in his bed. Ryker loved eating Nana’s pancakes every morning for breakfast. He sure loved all the attention!
We left on January 2nd at 5:30 am for the airport. The lines to customs were massive but thankfully we made our 8 am flight! Just like the flight up, Ryker was a great boy on the plane. He read his books and slept. We received several compliments about his good behavior.
As always we enjoyed our visit and we are counting down the days until we return.
