Canada in June

We left on Friday the 17th, at 3pm from Whitefish, Montana and headed North to Canada to visit Meemaw and Papa.

Our first stop was in Sparwood, B.C. to see the world’s largest truck.
Interesting Facts:
It can hold 2 buses and 2 pickups.
Titan was built to haul 350 tons of earth in mining operations.
We felt like an ant next to Titan.

We drove on the beautiful Crowsnest Pass and stopped at the Frank Slide.

The town's history;  On April 29, 1903, Turtle mountain collapsed, resulting in the greatest landslide in North American history which only took 100 seconds. At least 76 people were buried alive under tons of massive limestone boulders.

We made it to Meemaw and papa’s house about 9pm but felt more like 6pm because how bright the sun was. We talked for an hour then off to bed we went.

Dad’s sister Heather and 2 of her kids (Landon and Maddie) came down from Edmonton to visit with us on Saturday. It was an overcast day so it was a perfect day to go see Find Dory.

You held onto Hank for the entire movie. While walking out the theater you asked, “When can I watch it at home?” We will defiantly be buying this movie to see over and over again.  2016-06-18 12.33.09
You wanted me to take a picture of just Hank.

We came home, grabbed the sand bucket and walked with Maddie, Aunt Heather, and Meemaw over to Midnapore Lake to play in the sand and wade in the lake.

On our way out of the park we found a life size Chess game.

We don’t see these in the States anymore. I remember playing with them when I was your age.

Sunday was Father’s day. In primary you colored a tie which daddy wore proudly for the rest of church.

About 3pm we drove for 45 minutes to Airdire to visit with Ben’s family.  On the way we took a little detour to walk around Calgary Temple.

The temple was medium sized and beautiful. The stain glass windows are wheat fields that Calgary has many.

At Ben and Linda’s they fed us steaks with blue cheese, vegetables with cheese sauce, garlic bread, and potatoes which it was all delicious. For dessert we ate Strawberry Rhubarb crisp and two different pie: Banana cream, and coconut cream.

After we ate we went onto the deck and enjoyed watching the best entertainment made up of you and your cousins Max and Decker walking in your winter boats trying to catch crawfish.

When Dad got back to the car from visiting an investor he asked us if we saw an animal crossing the parking lot. We told him we hadn’t. He then said that while he was waiting in the office, he looked out the window and thought he saw a weird looking dog. He snapped a picture and looked closer at it and discovered it was actually a Jack Rabbit. We told Papa and he said, “It’s common to see those around, more common the squirrels.”

After a delicious lunch at a sushi place, we went back home to change and head to Midnapore Lake for a couple hours.

It was the three of us enjoying the perfect weather and water.

After playing in the water you busted out running back and forth on the beach. We had a good laugh that you needed to get your run in.

You and daddy built lots of sand castles and trenches.

You and I adventured to the rock where we stood and sat on bird poo.

We were grateful when some little boys about your age came and sat near us. You guys played so well together. DSC_2429DSC_2436DSC_2440DSC_2444DSC_2445
This lake would be the only reason we would move to Canada. It would be so much fun spending the day each week at the lake and enjoying the gorgeous pine trees are just breathtaking. During the winter we would go sledding on the hill and ice skating on the lake.

We left on Tuesday the 21st and started our long trek home. Because I am the only driver we take lots of rest stops and we stayed in a hotel in Great Falls, Montana.

We found out that the swimming pool was closed for some repairs and it made you really sad. You spent the evening watching a movie on the Ipad.

During this trip I kept getting headaches while traveling which were more like migraines but at least I didn’t throw up. You and Dad were great helpers with being as quiet as possible.

Total hours in the car going up: 19.
Total hours in the car coming home: 18.
We finally got home on the 22nd at 6pm from our week and half vacation.

We always enjoy visiting Canada. Even though it’s a long drive, we have been lucky enough to go visit often. This time was different because it’s probably the last visit for a while. So we soaked in everything and everyone.
